Mountain Superstitions
                               Appalachia is full of superstitions!!!! The following

                                      LOVE AND MARRIAGE
Look into a well on the first day of May and you will see your future companion.
Always pass the salt and pepper together. If you fail to do this, you may never marry.
If it rains on your wedding day, you will shed many tears during your married life.
If you sweep under someone's feet, they will never marry.
If a girl steps over a broom lying on the floor, she will never marry.
If a girl sits on a table, she will be an old maid.
It will bring good luck if a bride makes her own wedding dress.
Peel an apple in one long peeling. Throw the peeling over your right shoulder and it will form the initial of your future mate.
If you sleep in a strange house, name each of the four corners of the bedroom after a person you know. The corner you are looking at when you wake up will be the name of the person you will marry.
Marry in white, you'll do all right
Marry in blue, your mate will be true
Marry in brown, you'll live in town
Marry in green, ashamed to be seen
Marry in red, you'll wish you were dead
Marry in black, you better turn back
Marry in yellow, you got the wrong fellow
Marry in gray, you'll be sad all the day

Advice About Babies and Children
If you read the Bible completely through while you are pregnant, the child will become a preacher.
If you listen to music while pregnant, the child will be musical.
If you tickle a baby's foot, it will make him stutter when he grows up.
Never let a baby see itself in a mirror until it is one year old or it may die.
Children are to be seen, not heard.
If a child plays in the fire, it will wet the bed that night.
Put a cube of sugar on the window sill and the stork will bring a baby.
If a child's initials spell a word (i.e. Cathy Ann Taylor, C-A-T), he/she will be a genius.
Monday's child is fair of face
Tuesday's child is full of grace
Wednesday's child has far to go
Thursday's child is full of woe
Friday's child is loving and giving
Saturday's child will work for a living
A child that is born in the Sabbath day,
Will be handsome, good, rich, and gay.(Happy)
